Ramsey County Sheriff Bryan Lang is alerting residents that a scam is again targeting the area. Lang says the scammers claim that the intended target of the scam has a federal warrant for failing to show up for jury duty. Lang says the scammers have been using the fake names of non existent deputies Sgt. Micheal Smith, Lt. Greg Warren or Robert Smith. The callers then say the warrant can be taken care of by making a payment of $23,500. Lang reminds residents that this is a common type of phone scam. Any time the caller asks for immediate payment via cash apps, gift cards, or prepaid credit cards it is a telltale sign of a scam. Lang says residents are encouraged to contact local enforcement BEFORE sending any money in response to this type of phone call, email or text.
